Vontrice Dennis scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half and Breana Turner added a team-high 17 points as the FAU womens basketball team knocked-off Western Kentucky 79-67 on Saturday at the FAU Arena. The Owls (5-15, 2-7) fell behind 17-4 after the first four minutes but closed the half on a 28-18 run and trailed only by three at the break. In the second half, FAU burst out of the gates on a 23-8 run and controlled the margin the rest of the way en route to their first ever victory over WKU in program history. It was a great team win, said head coach Chancellor Dugan. I really liked how our point guards controlled the tempo and kept the offensive flowing. One of those point guards, Viviana Penate, came off the bench and matched a career-high with 12 points along with two assists. Teri Stamps also had a stellar game for FAU at the point adding four assists along with six points with only one turnover. The Lady Toppers (8-13, 5-4) were led by Amy McNear who paced all scorers with 23 points. McNear fouled out of the game late in the second half and was in foul trouble throughout the contest despite playing 30 minutes. Preseason All-Sun Belt forward Arnika Brown sprained her ankle in the first half and was unable to return for the rest of the game. The absence of Brown contributed to FAUs 36-34 rebounding edge. Dennis chipped in with eight boards, all in the second half, and April Goins collected seven rebounds for the Owls. Turner also helped on the glass and collected six rounds along with her team-high 17 points and a game-high four steals. The junior has now scored 136 points over her last 11 games (12.3 ppg). The Owls will have five days off before returning to action next Thursday on the road against North Texas. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. eastern from the Super Pit in Denton.
